This was my book club pick for September.

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a classic adventure book, following the titular character, Huck Finn, as he runs away from home and takes a raft down the Mississippi river. He travels with Jim, an enslaved person who runs away, and the two escape, rafting at night and hiding during the days. They have several adventures along the way, and Huck wrestles with the ideas of religion, right and wrong, and friendship during his travels.

This was a re-read for me, one of my favorite books. I actually have a quote from this book ("All right then, I'll go to Hell") tattooed on me! The language, while representative of the time, is definitely offensive, but the story is one worth telling. The only thing that keeps it from being five stars for me is that I actually do not like the character of Tom Sawyer at all, and found myself irritated and impatient for the book the end in the last chapters once he rejoined the story!

A nineteenth-century boy from a Mississippi River town recounts his adventures as he travels down the river with a runaway slave, encountering a family involved in a feud, two scoundrels pretending to be royalty, and Tom Sawyer's aunt who mistakes him for Tom.
