📖 I received a gifted e-book ARC. The following is my honest review✍🏻
Eye of the Hurricane is a dual POV small town, fake-dating romance. Katherine has a plan for her life, and it doesn't include time for romance. She's got her eye on a PR job for a professional hockey team and knows that she has her work cut out for her as a woman in the sports world. When pressure from her mother leads to a little white lie that she's seeing someone, and then she suddenly has to produce said boyfriend, she turns to her friend Ares. Ares has had a thing for Katherine since he met her, and he's all too glad to step into the role of temporary fake-boyfriend, and hopefully to show Katherine how good they can be together in the meantime. After all, why shouldn't she get to pursue passion at work AND in love?
This was a fun small-town romance. I loved the friends-to-lovers and found family aspects of it. I liked Katherine's focus and determination to reach her goals, and to know her worth as her own person and not just as part of a couple. I loved Ares' patience and willingness to go at her pace, to offer support without taking over. And the interactions with friends and side characters were great. While it can be read as a stand-alone, I did occasionally feel like I was missing bits and pieces from not having read the first book in this series, so I'd recommend checking out After the Storm first.
Katherine Graeves has her future mapped out. Land the PR job of her dreams with the South Carolina Sea Dragons, don’t get distracted, and always stay in control. But when a little white lie to appease her mother spirals out of control, Katherine suddenly needs a boyfriend to bring to her cousin’s wedding. Now she needs someone to play that part. The only person she can think to ask? Ares, the guy who’s been obsessed with her since his first day of college.
Ares Dawkins has never had a problem with painting or photography. It was always something that came naturally. Expressing emotion through his work? That was another story. What starts as a favor to a friend quickly turns into a spark neither of them can ignore.
The plan was always easy to stick to. But with Ares determined to show her how to let go and enjoy life, it’s becoming harder and harder to hold on to her sense of control. In the eye of the hurricane, where everything feels calm but nothing is truly safe—Ares and Katherine find themselves falling.
Eye of the Hurricane is a fake dating, small coastal town, found family, spicy romance filled with blushing and swooning.
