This was my Book of the Month club pick for February.
This Book Made Me Think of You is a dual POV contemporary fiction/ romance. It follows Matilda (Tilly) who, six months after losing her husband, is surprised to receive a call from a local bookstore about a gift her husband arranged for her. The shop owner, Alfie, explains that Joe arranged for a year of books, one a month starting on her birthday in January, each including a letter. As Tilly moves through the year, guided by the books Joe picked, she feels closer to him while also learning to say goodbye (but not forgotten). She comes to rely on Alfie and his bookstore to help her on her year of adventures and to feel alive again.
This one was hard to categorize. There’s a definite slow burn romance plot line, but it feels like more of a story about grieving and moving on after loss. I loved the idea of the year of books and all the characters. This was definitely a very emotional read!
Twelve stories. Twelve months. Once chance to heal her heart...
When Tilly Nightingale receives a call telling her there’s a birthday gift from her fiancé waiting for her at her local bookshop, it couldn’t come as more of a shock. Partly because she can’t remember the last time she read a book for pleasure. Mainly because Joe died five months ago…
The gift is simple – twelve carefully-chosen books from Joe, one for each month, to help her turn the page on her first year without him.
Tilly sets out on a series of reading-inspired adventures that take her around the world. But as she begins to vlog her journey, her story becomes more than her own. With help from Alfie, the bookshop owner, her budding new following and her friends and family, can Tilly’s year of books show her how to love again?
