This was my family book club pick for June.
Good Omens is a multi POV book that I am honestly not sure what genre it fits into! It's the story of an angel (Aziraphale) and a demon (Crowley) who teamed up thousands of years ago to essentially maintain the status quo on Earth. A little saving grace here, some temptation towards evil there, and no one's boss needs to be any wiser. But when the time for Armageddon approaches, and the Anti-Christ is in the picture, the two worry that they're running out of time on earth (and they quite like earth, thank you very much!) Enter a gang of school children in England, a zealous Witchfinder, a wanna-be computer engineer, a professional descendant, and the Four Bikers of the Apocalypse, and things are getting very messy, and very confusing, in and around one tiny English village!
I read this a few years ago and loved it, and decided to throw it in the mix as a book club suggestion. I'm so glad it got picked; it is just as funny and enjoyable to read the second time around. I love the humor in the writing, the large cast of characters and the chaotic pacing of the story!
The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.
