📖 I received a gifted e-book ARC. The following is my honest review✍🏻
I Punched an Alien and Now We’re in Couples Therapy is a multi POV alien romance that mostly focuses on the perspective of Blair and Osid. Blair, a struggling musician, is abducted from Earth moments before a fatal snakebite, and wakes up aboard an alien spacecraft, understandably frightened and royally pissed off! When she escapes, she meets Osid, the King of a warring group that has also been displaced to this planet. The two discover that Blair has been brought as part of a mating program meant to make sure Osid’s species doesn’t die out. He’s on board with the plan while Blair is decidedly NOT! Their abductors decide to force them through a series of challenges meant to improve bonding, and Blair and Osid have to team up to survive a twisted version of couples therapy!
I loved the writing and the humor, especially the character Blair, and I will absolutely give this author another try. I will say, though, that I don’t think alien romance is for me. Maybe because this was book 2 in a series, and it seems there was enough overlap with book 1 that it didn’t work as a stand-alone. I would recommend starting with book 1 (I Got Abducted by Aliens and Now I’m Trapped in a Rom-Com) to avoid confusion. While it turns out that alien romance is a bridge too far for me (I’ll stick to the occasional paranormal creature!) I think this absolutely delivered what it promised: it was ridiculous, adventurous, and fun with a lot of spice. There was a main character who was an absolute badass (Blair) that you are rooting for throughout and a hard-fought HEA for her and Osid. Would definitely recommend for anyone that enjoys alien romance!
It’s not in Blair’s nature to just give up. Not when she’s beamed up to a spaceship and then dropped on an alien planet. Not even when she’s in the middle of a forest fire surrounded by dinosaurs. And definitely not when she’s captured by an arrogant alien king. If King Osid thinks he can break her, he’s in for a shock. Blair lives by one If you stay ready, you never have to get ready.
But absolutely nothing could have prepared her for finding out that she’s that arrogant King Osid’s mate.
Despite recent hiccups, the alien researchers are determined to get their breeding program back on track. With that in mind, Blair and Osid are bundled off to the research center for what they’re told is couples counseling. As they face a series of increasingly dangerous challenges, it soon becomes clear the research aliens may have confused an episode of The Bachelor with Survivor. Bonding over their common enemy, and shall we say...encouraged by love darts, Blair and Osid let down their walls (and take off their clothes). When they discover that there are—somehow—even more secret plans in the works, another hilarious, steamy, over-the-top adventure is in store.
