📖 I received a gifted e-book ARC. The following is my honest review✍🏻
Love You to Death is a dual POV paranormal romance. Daniel is a Grim Reaper whose entire non-life is soul-crushingly boring bureaucracy. Lucy is supposed to be just another assignment, but she shocks him over and over again; she sees him, talks to him, even casually touches him… her vibrancy makes doing his job almost impossible. While Lucy doesn’t think she’s getting much right in this whole “life” business, she’s not willing to give it up without a fight! Between her stubborn pleading and Daniel’s bewildered intercession with the Powers That Be, Lucy is given a temporary reprieve, and the two use that time to make the most of Lucy’s life and explore their connection!
Jenna Levine’s books are absolutely delightful, and this was no exception! I loved that Lucy was extraordinary in her ordinariness - giving up a dream for practicality, a series of mundane and uninspiring jobs, and her fierce love for her family and cat; she was extremely relatable. Daniel being bored with his “existence” and his frustration with all the bureaucracy of the afterlife was amusingly relatable too! I loved their interactions, his observations of Lucy for his reports, and just how good they were together. Such a fun read all around!
Lucy McKenzie’s life has always been a disaster. So it should come as no surprise when one day she’s hit by an inconveniently-timed bus—and dies. Unfortunately for the handsome grim reaper who shows up to take her to the afterlife, Lucy is not about to go quietly.
Daniel is tired of his job collecting souls. While working for the Agency beats the heck out of going to Hell, he’s been doing this for literal ages. The drudgery has him yearning for more. Touched by Lucy’s plea for more time on earth, he convinces the Agency to make a Lucy can have six more weeks of life if Daniel can observe her and report back on humanity.
But as Lucy and Daniel navigate the chaos of life and afterlife together, they discover that a second chance at living might be their real chance at love.
